About AIPG:
The Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG) works to prevent genocide and mass atrocities through education, training, and technical assistance. The Africa Program Office is implementing the USAID-funded "Ugandans For Peace Activity" in partnership with Women’s International Peace Centre (WIPC) across 26 districts in Uganda's central region.
Project Overview:
The Ugandans For Peace Project aims to prevent political and electoral violence, build social cohesion, and promote peace in Uganda. It includes activities like capacity-building, peacebuilding, mediation, and media campaigns against violence.
Job Responsibilities:
The Media Officer will lead media campaigns addressing electoral and political violence in Uganda, particularly before, during, and after the 2026 general elections. Key responsibilities include:
Campaign Planning:
- Design and develop communication products and materials.
- Draft and implement communication campaign plans.
- Monitor and evaluate media campaign materials and their impact.
Media Production:
- Create materials like videos, fliers, radio jingles, billboards, etc.
- Organize media engagements (radio/TV shows, outdoor ads, social media campaigns).
Media Relations:
- Maintain a database of media contacts for timely dissemination.
- Collaborate with project partners and media to achieve campaign objectives.
Reporting and Monitoring:
- Track media updates on political violence.
- Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of campaign materials.
- Provide feedback to senior management.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build partnerships with civil society organizations and community groups.
- Collect outreach information and compile reports.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mass communication or related fields (postgraduate qualification preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in media campaigns (experience in violence prevention is a plus).
- Proven skills in media campaign material design and development.
- Proficiency in Luganda is an asset.
