About Somero Uganda:
Somero Uganda is a registered Non-Government Organization that was founded in 2009 by a group of young people within Kawempe division. With a Vision: “A Uganda where children and young women live a sustainable life free from exploitation.” And a Mission: “To promote and protect the rights of vulnerable children and young women through education, livelihood development and health initiatives.”

Somero Uganda is looking for a self-motivated individual to join the team as a Communications & Knowledge Management Officer. The ideal candidate will steer the internal and external communication aspects of Somero Uganda to ensure organization visibility and equity. He/she must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations with experience in graphics designing, photography, videography, social media suites, website management, writing; news, impact and feature stories. He/she should have passion with; a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, ability to prioritize tasks and manage time. He/she will also be expected to exercise a high degree of responsibility and professionalism.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

These roles and responsibilities must be planned and carried out in close collaboration with the senior management team, other programs, and support departments.

Knowledge Product Development:

  • Collaborate with other departments to develop knowledge products, including press releases, quarterly newsletters, magazines, success stories, photos, videos, and other collaterals.
  • Lead the creation, editing, and final production of communication content while adhering to Somero Uganda’s guidelines.
  • Coordinate efforts to capture, manage, and share knowledge within the organization, enhancing the programs’ learning environment and ensuring key insights are accessible to all stakeholders.
  • Oversee the creation, editing, and dissemination of key knowledge products, ensuring they are insightful and accurately represent the programs’ achievements with our branding and communication standards.

Website and Social Media Management:

  • Manage the end-to-end process of content creation for digital platforms, including websites and social media, ensuring content is engaging, up-to-date, and strategically aligned to enhance program visibility and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support in organizing and promoting program-specific events. This includes creating compelling promotional materials and utilizing digital platforms to engage a wider audience and increase participation in both virtual and physical spaces.

Organizational Document Support:

  • Assist in the preparation and completion of organizational documents and publications such as the Annual Report, E-Briefing, and other materials as advised by the SMT and Programs Manager.
  • Conduct regular reviews of all communication materials to ensure that they are consistent with organizational guidelines and meet the highest standards.

Events Management:

  • Work with the HR department and other department heads to plan and organize organizational-related events such as staff retreats, graduations, among others.
  • Provide support in organizing, facilitating, and documenting activities, meetings, and events, utilizing both online and onsite platforms.

Media Relations:

  • Provide support in establishing and sustaining relations with the media.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with media outlets to enhance the organization’s visibility. This includes managing all aspects of media relations, from press release distribution to co-managing virtual event platforms and ensuring consistent positive coverage of program initiatives.

Collaboration:

  • When required, represent Somero and maintain good working relationships among the international and local NGO community, community leadership structures, and CBOs.
  • Participate in the development of new proposals.
  • Support in identifying funding opportunities and development of concept papers.

Job Specifications:

  1. MUST have a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, or any related field. A postgraduate diploma in any related field is an added advantage.
  2. Proven track record in developing videos, taking/editing photos, and writing impactful stories.
  3. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time.
  4. Flawless verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Strong attention to detail.
  6. Experience in developing and implementation of communication strategies & plans, content calendars.
  7. Willingness to travel extensively within the districts of operation with a few occasional travels outside Uganda.
  8. Proficiency in digital media platforms, graphic designs, Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  9. At least 02 years of proven experience in content development, including producing press releases, success stories, and other multimedia content (photos and videos).
  10. Outstanding interpersonal, organizational skills, editing, and graphics skills.
