Job Description/Requirements

Impact and Innovations Development Centre (IIDC) is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in the Republic of Uganda. The organization seeks to improve the well-being of vulnerable groups in Africa through promoting evidenced and impactful socio-economic development interventions and innovations.

Job title: IT Officer

Location: Kampala, Uganda 

Reports to: Finance and Administration Manager

Supervises: None 

Purpose of the Job

The IT Officer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating various aspects of the organization's information technology systems and infrastructure. They will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of technology-related processes, providing security, technical support, and ensure deployment of cost-effective systems and services that support attainment of IIDC’s goals. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hardware and Software Management
  • Install and configure computer hardware, operating systems, and applications.
  • Troubleshoot and undertake 1st level repair of hardware, operating systems, and applications before escalation to either hardware/software vendors. 

System and Network Administration

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain equipment, computer systems (workstations, phones, video-conference system, power systems, CCTV), and networks to ensure network up time and availability of services.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and solve IT systems and network-related challenges.
  • Set up, managed and administered cloud instances i.e. Microsoft365, AWS, Google Workspace, Zoom.
  • Liaise with service providers i.e. ISP, Telephone, and printers to ensure maximum vendor support is offered.

Security and Compliance

  • Implement security controls and measures to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of 

IT systems.

  • Develop and update IT policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure best practices and compliance.
  • Establish and ensure compliance with data protection laws.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans to safeguard IT systems and data.

User Support and Training

  • Set up new users' accounts and profiles and at all times ensure the confidentiality of user data.
  • Provide capacity-building sessions to the team to ensure basic IT knowledge is imparted to the users. This shall include providing technical support, training sessions, procedural documentation, and relevant reports shared regularly.

Technology Evaluation and Implementation

  • Test and evaluate new technologies to improve the organization’s ways of working.
  • Enforce the use of cloud services for data storage to mitigate the risk of data loss due to computer/laptop loss or technological failures.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in the non-profit sector to recommend and implement innovative solutions.

IT Asset Management

  • Support the procurement of IT equipment and services; providing specifications upon request (assessment of needs, drafting technical specifications, and advice during the evaluation of quotations).
  • To always keep an updated inventory of IT systems both hardware and software including expiry of licenses and subscription renewals.
  • Communications and Website Management
  • Ensure the organization's website and all social media pages are updated & maintained regularly with official updates from the line manager.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

Added Advantage

  • Microsoft certification, CCNA, AWS cloud solutions certification or any other relevant certification

Competencies (Knowledge, Experience, and Skills)

  • At least three (3) years of experience providing information communications technology (ICT) and administrative support in a development context.
  • Experience working with the backend administration of websites is a must. Use of platforms such as Plesk, cPanel etc. is an added advantage.
  • Experience working in Non-government Organisations.
  • Knowledge of data protection laws.
  • Knowledge of Linux.
  • Experience with Cloud services such as Office 365, AWS and Google Workspace.
  • Experience with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to offer in-house and remote support to users.
  • Good technical troubleshooting skills.
