OVERVIEW

The Coordinator, Urban Adolescent Nutrition project will be responsible for management of the project, facilitating the implementation and delivery of the project outcomes ensuring the appropriate application of SCI policies and procedures. He/she will build close working relationships with the Country Office team and will establish and maintain collaborative relationships with counterparts in local government and implementing partner agencies to ensure the effective implementation of the project.

The job holder will deliver, implement and monitor an urban Adolescent Nutrition project in Kampala aimed at accelerating Save the Children and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)’s work in adolescent nutrition in the implementation area and contributing towards a global strategy around promoting healthy diets and practices amongst adolescents. The Job holder should be able to work with others and build networks; take initiative, work independently and proactively and work to high pressure and tight deadlines as an effective team member.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Program Management
• Coordinate the development of the work plans and its implementation as per the project document and in alignment with SCI policies and guidelines.
• Coordinate the project’s effective implementation with the CO team and regional MEAL Coordinator and other SC projects to ensure the results are achieved and resources are well managed.
• Collaborate with the leadership of KCCA and other implementing partners to implement project interventions.
• Prepare and present monthly work-plans, periodic narrative progress reports and expenditures status reports.
• Provide overall oversight for interventions to ensure that set project targets are met timely.
• Represent the project in various fora at KCCA, health facilities and community level to articulate project priorities and recommended actions.
• Establish systems for project planning, implementation and monitoring.
• Record and maintain documents on relevant project activities for accountability purposes.

Management of financial and human resources
• Supervise and manage a team of project volunteers and the Nutrition Officer.
• Work with HR to ensure all project volunteers are trained on prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and are fully informed of the code of conduct and zero tolerance for PSEA.
• Coordinate development and preparation of financial resources of the project including budgeting and budget re-alignments, and expenditure tracking and reporting.

Technical Support
• Spearhead coordination and monitoring, preparation and implementation of the Urban Adolescent Nutrition project activities.
• Participate in regular (biweekly) check in calls with the CO team and partners to provide updates, communicate key challenges and agree on key actions for course correction Child and Adult Safeguarding
• Serve as the national focal point and champion on Child and Adult Safeguarding.
• Actively analyse risks to child and adult safety, propose and implement mitigation measures.

Coordination
• Coordinate all the project activities as are provided in the project document, DIP and budget.
• Represent SCI in technical working group meetings at KCCA level to foster collaboration, learning and engagement.

Reporting, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
• Ensure timely writing and submission of quality and accurate reports monthly and at all other requested times.
• Provide support to program monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and impact assessment efforts; work in close collaboration with the M&E team to ensure that data collected is accurate, valid and captures process and outcome indicators.
• In collaboration with SC SBC and knowledge management staff, lead the process of documenting best practices in form of case studies, success stories, briefs, video clips in addition to the project reports.

To be successful for this role you will bring/have the following:
• At least a university degree in public health, nursing/midwifery, SWASA or related field.
• At least three years of experience; program coordination experience required,
• Proven work experience in public health program implementation preferably in ASRH, Nutrition, social behaviour changes at sub-national level,
• Sound understanding of local government systems, previous work experience in Kampala would be an added advantage,
• Excellent team working and interpersonal skills including dealing both directly and indirectly with government officials and other partners/stakeholders at various levels,
• Demonstrated ability to work productively in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment, and to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
• Written and oral fluency in English is a requirement.
