General Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Operations Manager to oversee and optimize our organization's day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent leadership and problem-solving skills, capable of ensuring operational efficiency, streamlining processes, and driving continuous improvement across various departments and the organization.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Operational Strategy and Planning: 

Develop and execute operational strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives. Collaborate with senior management to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and establish benchmarks for measuring operational efficiency. Analyze operational data to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance processes.

Team Leadership and Development: 

Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of department heads and operational staff, providing guidance and support to ensure effective performance. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the operations team. Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and provide ongoing feedback to enhance team members' professional growth.

Process Optimization: 

Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and gaps in operational processes, and implement strategies to streamline workflows. Implement best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance operational effectiveness and consistency. Monitor process performance, gather feedback from stakeholders, and make data-driven recommendations for improvements.

Resource Allocation and Management: 

Manage resource allocation, including personnel, equipment, and budget, to ensure efficient utilization and cost-effectiveness. Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure timely procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies necessary for operations. Monitor budgetary adherence and implement strategies to optimize resource allocation and reduce operational costs.

Quality Assurance and Compliance: 

Ensure that operations comply with industry regulations, quality standards, and safety protocols. Establish and monitor quality assurance processes to uphold the organization's reputation for delivering high-quality products or services. Address and resolve any operational issues, emergencies, or compliance concerns that may arise.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: 

Collaborate with other department heads, including finance, marketing/communication, and human resources, to align operational strategies with overall organizational objectives. Facilitate effective communication and coordination among departments to enhance interdepartmental collaboration and synergy.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Logistics and Procurement, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an Operations Manager or in a similar leadership role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in project management tools, process optimization techniques, and ERP systems.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering results.
  • Experience in supply chain management, logistics, or manufacturing is a plus.

Success Factors:

The successful Operations manager will have strong consultative skills, and a high degree of comfort in discussing agricultural techniques and livelihood issues, often in complex scenarios. This person will develop trust easily with field teams, other ForAfrika leadership, and external partners. This person should be an excellent written and verbal communicator able to represent ForAfrika at public events. This person should be extremely well organized and capable of presenting complex information in simple terms to diverse audiences.
