General Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical MEAL Assistant to support the planning, implementation, and management of our organization's monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning processes. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring the effective tracking of program activities, assessing project outcomes, and promoting a culture of learning and improvement.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Management: 

Assist in the design and implementation of data collection tools, surveys, and questionnaires. Support the collection, verification, and entry of project data into designated databases or systems. Ensure data accuracy and integrity, and help maintain organized and secure data records.

Monitoring and Reporting: 

Contribute to the monitoring of project activities, milestones, and indicators. Help prepare regular progress reports, highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned. Collaborate with program staff to ensure timely submission of data and narrative reports.

Evaluation and Impact Assessment: 

Assist in conducting baseline, midline, and endline assessments to measure project impact and outcomes. Support the analysis of evaluation data and contribute to the preparation of evaluation reports. Participate in discussions on program effectiveness and recommendations for improvement.

Accountability and Feedback Mechanisms: 

Help establish and maintain mechanisms for beneficiaries' feedback and complaints. Assist in collecting and analyzing feedback data to inform program adjustments and enhance beneficiary engagement. Contribute to transparent and effective communication channels with stakeholders.

Learning and Capacity Building: 

Support knowledge-sharing and learning activities among project staff and partners. Assist in organizing learning events, workshops, and training sessions to promote a culture of continuous improvement. Contribute to documenting and sharing best practices and lessons learned.

Partnership and Coordination: 

Collaborate closely with program teams to ensure MEAL activities align with program objectives. Assist in coordinating with external partners, consultants, and stakeholders involved in monitoring and evaluation activities. Represent the organization in MEAL-related meetings and forums as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Monitoring and Evaluation, Social Sciences, International Development, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in monitoring, evaluation, or data management is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team. Knowledge of humanitarian or development contexts is a plus.
  • Must possess a Valid Riding Permit.

Success Factors: 

The successful Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Assistant will have strong consultative skills, and a high degree of comfort in discussing agricultural techniques and livelihood issues, often in complex scenarios. This person will develop trust easily with field teams, other ForAfrika leadership, and external partners. 

This person should be an excellent written and verbal communicator able to represent ForAfrika at public events. This person should be extremely well organized and capable of tracking multiple competing priorities. The successful person will be skilled at reducing complexities to clear and understandable non-technical terms with a focus on practical next steps.
