Job Details:

General Summary
The Infectious Diseases Institute has received funding to conduct meningitis studies and is seeking to recruit a laboratory technologist to support The Immunology of Meningitis (TIME) project activities. The successful candidate for this job will independently performs routine and highly complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens in one or more sections of the IDI-Translational laboratory with minimum supervision. The candidate is required to work with teams to perform detailed immunological analysis, flow cytometry, cell cultures, cell sorting, PBMCs isolations, ICS, cell staining, and FlowJo data analysis. The successful candidate will be required to travel from time to time and whenever required to the field clinic sites to support with specimen collection, to local and international trainings, meetings and conferences. The candidate will be required to perform real time data entry for sharing to international collaborating teams.

Key Responsibilities
• Performs timely routine processing and analysis of patients’ specimens (CSF, whole blood, PBMCs, biopsies, autopsies, plasma, serum etc) in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures within the expected time frames.
• Perform routine data analysis and date entry into the databases for sharing with teams
• Performs cell staining, flow cytometry, ICS and data analysis according to the established panels and protocols.
• Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical and immunological data, and information.
• Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and linearity for test methods and equipment in use.
• Operates, calibrates, checks, and maintains instrumentation.
• Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate actions to troubleshoot to ensure high standards of quality of assays results.
• Provides oversight and mentorship to phlebotomist, students, and new employees in laboratory testing following system policies and procedures, as well as any applicable organization regulations
• Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory skills and protocols knowledge.
• Performs other duties as may be assigned or required.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology, Biomedical sciences or any other related degree qualifications and a post graduate training in the similar field would be an added advantage.

Specifications: Be flexible and able to work for long hours.
• Self-motivated and able to work individually and with teams with minimum supervision.
• Fast learner, critical thinker, agile and good time keeper who is able to deliver assignments within expected timelines.
• Demonstrated skills, clinical research experiences and interests in flow cytometry, in immunology and assay development.
• Have at least one year of clinical laboratory and/or immunology or similar research laboratory experience.
• Experience in Flow cytometry, cell cultures, cell sorting, PBMCs isolations, cell staining, and FlowJo data analysis platform is A plus.
• Must have working knowledge of GCLP.
• Working knowledge and experience of data and work processing software including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Working knowledge and experience of data processing software including FACS Diva, Spectro Flow, Flowjo, STATA, GraphPad Prism is a bonus.
• Must be registered and/or licensed with the relevant professional council.
