Job Details:

General Summary

The Cashier will oversee all petty cash requests within the Finance and Administration Department.

Key Responsibilities

Cash Management 

  1. Banking - Arranging for drawing and depositing of monies as needed 

       2. Maintaining safe custody over the central safe box 

       3. Effecting cash payments as authorized and following up payments from office imprest to ensure reimbursements  

       4. Preparing and issuing receipts for monies received in cash and deposited on bank accounts 

       5. Maintaining cash related initial books of account, ledgers and journals 

       6. Management of cash receivables  

       7. Reconciliation of imprest and related bank accounts 

General accounting  

      8.Verifying the accuracy and authenticity of accountabilities and identifying appropriate general ledger codes for expensing accountabilities in Navision. 

      9. Reconciliation of assigned bank reconciliations. 

     10. Ensures that all documents are archived and maintained in a safe and secure manner for the time specified by IDI’s policies 

     11. Reconciling accounts payable. Obtaining vendor statements and comparing with Navision transactions, identifying errors and passing journal entries for correction 

     12. Performing periodic asset verifications, cash counts and stock counts at IDI and/ or field offices. 

     13. Generating and reviewing TDs for support departments 

      14. Assist in the compilation and filing of statutory returns 

      15 . Assist in compiling and reviewing data for treasury management 

     16. Identifies internal controls that require improvement and suggests appropriate policy and procedure modifications for improved internal control. 

      17. Assists the accountant obtain support documents, prepares analysis of accounts for audits. 

      18. Ensures all Audit paperwork is properly archived at the end of each Audit 

Any other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time 

Person Specification

 A minimum of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting option) or Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) (Finance/ Accounting), from a reputable Institution/University.

  • ACCA or CPA qualification (or in the process of being certified, Level 2 minimum)
  • Relevant skills in automated accounting software systems and database spreadsheets
  • Good communication, organization and management skills
  • Understands client confidentiality and exhibits a high level of ethical conduct
  • Good interpersonal skills and can work in a team
  • Has basic computer literacy including word processing, excel, the internet and PowerPoint.
