Job Details:

Job title: Medical Counselor (4 Positions)
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire suitable candidates for the position of Medical Counselor for the SEARCH SAPPHIRE Study (Phase B) to be based in South-
Western & South-Central Uganda. The Medical Counselors will counsel as well as screen and enroll study participants. The successful candidates will report to the site Clinical Officers.

Job description:
• Provide counselling to study participants, attendants and guardians.
• Provide counselling to participants before enrolling them on PrEP, PEP and ART.
• Enrolling and screening of study participants.
• Work with VHTs to coordinate community enrollments.
• Counsel participants who test HIV positive and link them to care.
• Provide continuous risk reduction counselling for HIV.
• Administer study tools (as may be required) to study participants.
• Contribute to effective mobilisation of the target study population.
• Assist in generating appointment schedules for participants.
• Obtain consent from participants/parents and guardians.
• Ensure proper documentation and adherence to the study protocol.
• Participate in adverse events monitoring.
Any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time depending on the changing needs of the project.

Qualifications and other desirables for the job:
• Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Medicine with additional training in Counselling from a reputable institution.
• Previous training in mental health is an added advantage.
• At least two years experience working in counselling; Experience of working in a research environment.
• Fluency in Runyankore or Luganda is a MUST.
• Must have good computer and interpersonal skills.
• Must have a valid GCP.
• Must be highly flexible and able to work as part of a team.
