Overview:
• URC is seeking an experienced Knowledge Management Technical Advisor for the USAID Uganda Health Activity (UHA), a five-year program. The purpose of UHA is to support the Government of Uganda’s (GOU’s) efforts to increase the survival and well-being of vulnerable populations and improve overall health system resilience in seven priority regions. The program will strengthen the quality and availability of MNCH, FP/RH, nutrition, and facility-level WASH services as well as health systems at the regional-, district-, facility-, and community-levels.

Responsibilities:
• The Knowledge Management Technical Advisor will be responsible for communication and documentation for the project, with the overall aim of conveying accurate and timely information about project work to various project audiences, including USAID, district local governments and beneficiary clients and communities. They will also advise the project senior management team on progress and the needs for corrective actions, remedies or changes in strategy as may be appropriate. He/she will also coordinate, provide support, direction, and assistance to project teams in the conduct of operational research studies; support statistical analysis, coordinate research ethics approval and coordinate publication of articles in peer review journals

Specific responsibilities include the following:
• Identify, document, and disseminate project activities and achievements. Promote project successes and lessons learned utilizing a variety of communication channels.
• Work with project research and M&E and learning teams, technical teams and partners, government (Ministry of Health and district Local Governments), communities and project beneficiaries to identify, document, and disseminate best practices, success stories, and lessons learned.
• Design and maintain a life-of-project inventory of all technical reports and products, including electronic and hard copies, and distribution list.
• Provide technical writing and editorial support to major project deliverables.
• Provide desktop publication support for project deliverables and dissemination products.
• Lead documentation of project success stories and communication activities for quarterly and annual program reports, assuring results-oriented, reader-friendly reports.
• Assure timeliness and high quality of all project knowledge products, deliverables, and achievements.
• Write, edit, and at times, oversee the design of project materials, including success stories, monthly update articles, and blog posts.

Additional and other responsibilities may include:
• Coordinate identification of operational research studies
• Support teams to develop data collection tools from identified research questions
• Manage research ethics approvals
• Oversee and support teams to conduct data collection, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis
• Present research findings to project partners
• Write and contribute to journal articles
• Oversee field activities in relation to operational research data collection
• Train research assistants
• Clean data and conducting statistical analyses
• Write timely research and trainings reports, including publishing, and disseminating research results.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to communicate information to stakeholders at all levels using a variety of communications approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to work with teams to produce written products and media, adhering to deadlines, and short turnaround times.
• Excellent writing and editing skills required.
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Qualifications:
Required Experience and Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field required; a master’s degree in public health or relevant field preferred.
• 8 years of work experience, at least 3 years of experience in knowledge management activities for international development projects; preferably in the health sector; experience with USAID-funded projects is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in knowledge management, including the ability to identify and document project activities and achievements, best practices, success stories, and lessons learned.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:
• Previous experience working with URC or USAID is an added advantage.
